Listen to a screen-read hashtag

In our blog post called 'Alt text and beyond', we talk about how screen-readers can struggle to read long hashtags when they are in lower case.

Here's an example, using the VoiceOver function on the Mac operating system. It reads a hashtag in lower case, and then the same hashtag in upper camel case.

Can you make out the words in both versions?

00:00 / 00:05

The hashtag is #ComeForTheLoveStayForTheParty.

The lower-case version sounds roughly like: "Numbercommieforthuhliverstayfortherpurty".

The camel-case version reads each word distinctly. The hash symbol is still read out as "Number".
